The vice president of public relations of KAI, the Indonesian National Railway, said that the stations of the Jakarta Light Rail are located in strategic locations at the junction of residential and commercial areas, with the goal of making it easier for commuters to travel between the capital and other areas. There are 18 stations in total, and the light rail stations are divided into two types: transfer stations and ordinary stations. Transfer stations have three floors, the first floor is the boarding area, the second floor is the platform area, and the third floor is the commercial area; ordinary stations are divided into two floors: the boarding area and the platform area. The stations are equipped with escalators, toilets, nursing rooms, prayer rooms, health rooms, passenger information display systems, passenger broadcasting systems, and televisions.

The light rail is located in the Jakarta metropolitan area. It is promoted by the government and directly operated by the Indonesian Railways. It plans to connect the center of Jakarta with the suburbs of Greater Jakarta, such as Bogor, Depok and Bekasi, hence the abbreviation "Jabodebek". This operation is the first phase of the project. The first phase includes the Cibubur-Cawang-Baranangsiang section of Line 1, the Cawang-Bekasi Timur section of Line 2, and the Cawang-Dukuh Atas-Senayan section of Line 3. It is expected to cost 11.9 trillion rupiah (about 903.6 million US dollars) and is about 44 kilometers long; the second phase of the project will extend Line 1 southward from Cibubur to Bogor Baranangsiang, and also from Dukuh Atas to Palmerah and Senayan, and is currently in the planning stage.
